Weathering is the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals at or near the Earth’s surface. Compared to erosion, weathering takes place in the same place, with little or no movement.
There are two types of weathering: physical and chemical weathering. Physical weathering refers to rock and soil breakdown. Chemical weathering involves the chemical reaction that occurs. Bothphvsical and chemical weathering take place at the same time and place. A good example of weathering can be found in the cave at Gunung Mulu National Park in Malasia.
