Inflammation is a natural response of the body to injuries, infections, or irritations. It is a way in which the organism tries to protect itself and heal.
During inflammation, blood vessels dilate to allow more blood and nutrients to reach the affected area. This causes redness, swelling, and heat.
There may also be pain and loss of function in the affected area. Inflammation can be acute, when it is temporary, or chronic, when it persists for longer periods.
