Erosion is the geological process in which Earth materials are transported from one place to other. When erosion occurs, rock and soil are transported due to the effect of natural forces, mainly wind, ice, or water.
There are two types of erosion: physical and chemical erosion.
- Physical erosion refers to rocks changing their physical properties without changing their chemical composition.
- Chemical erosion causes the breakdown and decay of rocks through a chemical process.
A good example of erosion can be found in The Grand Canyon in Colorado (United States).
