A spermatozoon, or sperm cell, is a tiny, single-celled organism produced in the testes of male animals for the purpose of fertilizing a female egg during sexual reproduction.
It is characterized by its streamlined shape with a long tail, which allows it to swim towards the egg. Spermatozoa are produced in large quantities by males and are released through ejaculation during sexual intercourse. Once a spermatozoon successfully penetrates and fertilizes an egg, the resulting zygote will develop into a new organism.
The process of spermatogenesis, or the production of sperm, is continuos throughout a male’s life, but the quality and quantity of sperm produttced can be affected by factors such as age, diet, and overall health.
