Neutrons and protons are subatomic particles found in the nucleus of every atom except that of simple hydrogen (where the nucleus contains only a single proton). Neutrons have no electrical charge (neither negative nor positive) and are incredibly dense.
Neutrons contain one up quark and two down quarks. The main function of neutrons is to contribute to the binding energy or nuclear glue that holds the nucleus together.
