A myth is a traditional story based on ancient beliefs of different communities that presents supernatural explanations of facts or natural phenomena. The purpose of the myth is not to entertain, as is the case with the short story, but to explain the meaning of life.

The myth is a story (myth-narrative). It is also conceived as a complex of beliefs (myth-belief) to capture and express a specific type of reality, a logical system, or a form of discourse.

What Is A Myth

Legends of Greek mythology speak of values such as effort, perseverance, humility, and friendship. For example, we have The Trojan Horse, which tells us about teamwork and determination, or the story of Narcissus, which tells us about vanity.

Myths generally have an oral and traditional origin, a heritage from the primary eras of cultures. Constructing a story and a narrative imaginary was necessary to “explain” the source of things or specific codes of conduct.
