A magnet is an object capable of producing a magnetic field and attracting unlike poles and repelling like poles. Magnets have two poles, a north pole, and a south pole. The magnetic field is represented by field lines that start at a magnet’s north pole and end at the south pole.
A magnet attracts some metals, mainly iron. This property of magnets to attract metals is called magnetism.
All magnets lose their magnetizing capacity in the presence of high temperatures. Therefore, if they are heated, separating them from each other will be easier.
On the other hand, magnets can magnetize other materials permanently or temporarily. Such is the case of steel, which can be magnetized for a long time. Whereas iron only gets momentary magnetization.
In conclusion, the properties of magnets are varied. Some can magnetize other elements permanently or momentarily. Likewise, if each piece is broken, it creates a new magnet with its respective north and south poles.
