WH words are used to make questions that require information in answer, rather than yes or no. The most common WH words are: who, when, what, which, where, why, how, how often and how many.
What are the functions of the WH words?
- WHO: used to ask about people.
- WHEN: used to ask for time.
- WHAT: used to ask for information.
- WHICH: used to ask about choice.
- WHERE: used to ask for a place or location.
- WHY: used to ask for a reason.
- HOW: used to ask for manner, condition or quality.
- HOW OFTEN: used to ask about frequency.
- HOW MANY: used to ask about quantity.
