Hi Teachers and Families! If you are a Pre-K teacher you must know the importance of tracing shapes and lines at this age. When the children are between 3 and 5 years old they are in the process of developing their pre-writing skills. Copying and tracing will give our students the confidence that they need for, later, being able to start writing letters and numbers.
The benefits of tracing are so many, but here you have some reasons why it is so important in a childhood age:
- It develops fine motor skills.
- It develops visual-spacial skills.
- It helps building confidence.
If you want to download this resource for free, scroll down and you’ll find the PDF file. We recommend you to print them in a DINA4 size for, later, laminate them. If your children use a marker you can have reusable sheets, so they can use them over and over again.

You can also complement this series of shape tracing cards with these other activities based on tracing numbers. In this other downloadable set, we have designed tracing flaschard with all the basic numbers (i.e. 0 to 9).
Building on those beginnings is important. Every time you name a number. Is very important to sensitize children to numbers and teach a number word and its connection to a specific quantity. And before we start with this, it is important that children know how to identify the shape of the number, and learn to write it. For this task, our tracing flashcards are ideal!
