The independence of Mexico, initiated on September 16, 1810, by the priest Miguel Hidalgo, was a revolutionary movement aimed at liberating Mexico from Spanish colonial rule.
The struggle extended for over a decade, involving leaders such as José María Morelos and Vicente Guerrero. Finally, in 1821, the Treaty of Córdoba and the Plan of Iguala established Mexico’s independence. However, the civil war continued until 1824 with the adoption of a republican constitution.
Mexico’s independence marked the beginning of a free and sovereign nation, putting an end to Spanish colonial dominance.
