Hey Teachers! On March 17th it is celebrated the most famous event in Ireland, which is called St. Patrick’s Day. This day is a cultural and religious celebration. Saint Patrick (385-461) was a Christian missionary who “found God” at the age of 22 and he became a priest. It is said that he spent many years evangelising in the northern half of Ireland and converted “thousands”.
Irish people want to honour his memory and that’s the reason why they celebrate this event. During St. Patrick’s Day it takes place parades, different festivals, formal gatherings and christians may also attend church services. On Saint Patrick’s Day, it is a tradition to wear shamrocks, green clothing or green accessories. Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish.
