Hey Science Teachers! Here you have new resource for your class. This totally free material is made up of 7 different slides that will help you explaining what matter and its properties are to your students. Your students will love it!!
What is matter in a simple definition?
Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space (volume). Matter is made up of small particles, known as atoms. Matter can be presented in different states, each of them has specific characteristics.
What are the states of matter?
Matter exists in different states and they can be three: solid, liquid or gas. Any of the three states can be transformed into the others and these processes have particular names.
- Solids: They have a definite shape and volume. Atoms are tightly packed together.
- Liquids: They have definite volume but not definite shape. Atoms move around but stay close to each other.
- Gases: They have no definite shape or volume. Atoms move quickly and are far apart.
What are the general properties of matter?
Mass is the amount of matter inside an object. Mass is usually measured in grams (g). It can be measured using a balance.
Volume is the amount of space something takes up. Volume is usually measured in liters (L). It can be measured using any instrument that can measure liquids, such as test tubes.
If you want to go further and use interactive activities for your students’ notebooks, we have created the perfect resource for you and your pupils. Your students just need glue and scissors to attach these activities to their notebooks. In case you have doubts how to place these interactive activities, we show you some examples below.
