Hey Teachers! Here you have a new bundle for your math classes. It consists of 2 display posters for your classroom and 15 different worksheets with lots of activities to practice the place value. You can introduce the PLACE VALUE to your students using the display posters’ information. Besides, you can use any of the worksheets to teach them how to find out the different digits and their values.
What is Place Value?
Place value is the value of a digit based on its place in a number. Place value starts on the right and move to the left. The main ones are: Ones, Tens and Hundreds. Let’s see an example!
Number 265:
- The digit in the ones place is 5 and its value is 5.
- The digit in the tens place is 6 and its value is 60.
- The digit in the hundreds place is 2 and its value is 200.
Why is Place Value important in Mathematics Learning?
When children are in a young age (KS1 and KS2) they get familiarized with numbers and letters. Teachers are in charged of helping them to get some basic knowledge, such as:
- Counting, reading and writing numbers from 1 to 100.
- Identifying one more or one less in every given number.
- Counting in steps of 2, 3 and 5.
- Using number facts to solve problems.
To be able to do any of these tasks properly, it is necessary to be able to understand and represent the place value. If the child cannot distinguish between digits and values it means he is not ready to do any of these tasks.
