Dwarf planets are celestial bodies that share characteristics with planets but do not meet all the requirements to be considered as such.
In the solar system, recognized dwarf planets include Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Haumea, and Makemake.
These objects orbit the Sun, have enough mass to be nearly spherical, and are not satellites of other planets.
Although Pluto used to be considered the ninth planet, in 2006, it was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union due to its eccentric orbit and interaction with other objects in its vicinity.
