Coordinating conjuctions
These conjunctions are used to connect two clauses equally important. The coordinating conjunctions are: For, and, nor, but, or, yet and soon.
Examples of Coordinating conjuctions:
- I studied hard but I failed the math exam.
- She is beautiful and smart.
Subordinating conjuctions
These conjunctions are used to connect an independent clause with a dependent clause. Some of them are:
- When
- If
- Because
- Since
Examples of Subordinating conjuctions
- We can’t go to the park because it’s raining.
- You have to tidy up your room before we go.
Correlative conjuctions
They are pair of conjunctions used in the same sentence to connect the clauses.

– Rather/than – Either/or
– Neither/nor – As/as
Examples of Correlative conjuctions:
- You can have either sausages or pizza.
- Neither Tom nor his girlfriend are coming.
