Poetry is a form of creative writing where the use of language tools is made. In addition, it contains some particular elements, such as verses, rhyme, stanzas, etc.
In this genre, there are two essential aspects: poet and poem. The first is the poet, and, more specifically, the person who knows and represents the world. And the second is the poetic work, or in other words “the literary composition”, which is the arrangement of words that contain meaning and musicality.
Elements of poetry
A poetic text is made up of units, among them are:
- The verse: It is the least structured division in the poem. They are each of the lines that make it up. It requires other verses to communicate some message.
- The stanza is the set of verses whose form is repeated throughout a poem, with the same characteristics.
- The rhyme is the equality or similarity of the final sounds of the verses with each other. These can be of two types, consonant or assonant.
- Consonant rhyme: It is the one that is established between the verses whose endings, from the last vowel that is pronounced with an accent, are the same, including vowels and consonants.
- Assonance rhyme: It occurs only in the vowels of the verses from the last stressed vowel.
