The thermosphere is a layer of the Earth’s atmosphere located above the mesosphere and below the exosphere.

It extends from approximately 85 kilometers in altitude to around 600 kilometers. In this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases due to the absorption of solar radiation.

Although the temperature is high, the thermosphere is considered a cold layer because the air density is very low, meaning that heat transfer is not felt much. Additionally, it is the layer where the aurora borealis and aurora australis occur.
